Bruce Smith helps horse owners, trainers, boarding stables, buyers and sellers, breeders, and non-profit equine organizations with all sorts of equine matters, including: drafting liability releases, boarding agreements, and sales contracts; forming LLC's, partnerships and other equine businesses; litigating liability cases, sales disputes and veterinary malpractice cases; and handling equine lien and collections issues.
Mr. Smith owns and rides horses and works with his clients to help them understand liability issues and minimize their risks. Equine insurance, well written contracts and liability releases as well as compliance with Equine Activity Liability Acts are a good start, but Mr. Smith has found that many people misunderstand these tools and often forfeit available protections as a result.
While in Kentucky Mr. Smith was active in forming, advising and volunteering with a number of equine related charities. He was a member of the Thoroughbred Club of America, an Associate Member of the Thoroughbred Farm Managers' Club, and President and Director of the High Hope Steeplechase Association, Inc. He also was active with Central Kentucky Riding for the Handicapped (now Central Kentucky Riding for Hope) and did the legal work to form and advise several racehorse retirement and adoption groups. He has authored and presented on a number of topics at such seminars as the National Equine Law Conference and Virginia's Equine Extravaganza.
